Gulmarg — Meadow of Flowers
Gulmarg is a breathtaking hill station in the Pir Panjal range of the western Himalayas, just 50 km from Srinagar. Originally called "Gaurimarg" by shepherds, it was renamed by Sultan Yusuf Shah Chak in the 16th century, enchanted by its vast meadows filled with wildflowers.
About Gulmarg
Today, Gulmarg is famous worldwide for the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world reaching 3,979 meters at Phase 2. The gondola offers jaw-dropping views of the Himalayas and is operational year-round. In winter, it serves as the gateway to some of the best powder skiing in Asia.
Beyond skiing and the gondola, Gulmarg offers lush green meadows in summer, a historic golf course (one of the highest in the world), the beautiful St. Mary's Church, and horse riding through alpine scenery.
