Pahalgam — Valley of Shepherds
Pahalgam is Kashmir's most beloved valley, set along the banks of the Lidder River. Known for its pristine valleys, lush meadows, and pine forests, it's the perfect escape into nature and also the base camp for the holy Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.
About Pahalgam
Pahalgam, meaning "Village of Shepherds," sits at an altitude of 2,130 meters in the Anantnag district of Kashmir. This charming town is cradled by snow-capped peaks and dense pine forests, with the crystal-clear Lidder River flowing through its heart.
The town gained worldwide fame after Bollywood films were shot here — most notably at Betaab Valley, named after the 1983 film "Betaab." Nearby Aru Valley is a hidden gem known for meadows, lakes, and as a starting point for the Kolahoi Glacier trek.
Pahalgam also serves as the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra, one of Hinduism's holiest pilgrimages. The Chandanwari route to Amarnath Cave begins here, attracting thousands of devotees each year.
